Im now going to deal with the injuries i sustained in my industrial accident on the 17th January 1990.

Once i had been dealt with in casualty i was admitted straight onto the ward,i spent the next 6-8 weeks in hospital during that period no ex-rays were taken, just put on the ward with my leg elevated ,my foot turned black and gangrenous over several weeks and they had to amputate all of my toe's and lost all the muscle pad that supports your foot .I was then discharged from hospital and over several months i developed infections and i was re-admitted to have it cleared up, the first set of ex-rays .were taken on the 9/11/90.

After several weeks back in hospital i was then discharged again and had great difficulty in walking so i had to be aided by a walking stick to support myself and take the pressure off my left foot as i was in excruciating pain ,then late on in 1990 the bones in my foot collapsed and around november of that year i was re-admitted again to have the collapsed bones trimmed,i was then discharged again after spending several weeks in hospital i then started to deteriorate from then and my walking posture was affected and still had to use a walking stick to support myself and aid my walking. I was then left in severe pain again in my left foot this then transferred to my good leg as it was taking all my body weight and this was also to affect my lower back and put extra strain on my right hip, knee and ankle as my walking posture got worse.I was then transferred under the care of the sheffield hospital limb center south yorkshire in late october 1991 due to the severe discomfort and severe pain i was in and my walking posture been badly affected. The Doctors at the limb center decided to arrange an appointment to see a orthotics specialist at the derbyshire royal infirmary hospital this was in the expertise of a foot specialist .They tried various shoe inserts to no success as it only made my situation worse and just left me in more severe pain in my left foot and all down my right side still affecting my right hip, knee, ankle and lower back, they then decided to do some foot pressure studies around january 1992 and was finally diagnosed with a fixed heel inverted foot causing knee rotation. This was a major factor that was causing the problems with my walking posture and the excruciating pain that i was in my left foot, lower back and all down my right side,at a medical conference around july 1992 at the sheffield hospital limb center with the doctors and a orthopedic surgeon they decided to do a below knee amputation i then had a further conference with the orthopedic surgeon around october 1992 .He decided to have some ex-rays which was the second time any had been done since my accident on january 17th 1990 ,after they had been taken it showed up on the ex-rays that i had a fracture through my heel and ankle he then went on to state to me was the major factor that was causing me all the discomfort and excruciating pain that i was in and affecting my walking posture, as mentioned above my below knee amputation took place in november 1992.

Things didn't go to well from that point and in march 1993 i developed a painfully abscess on the tip of the stump right on the shin bone which was pressing against the inside of the socket of the prosthesis which caused me more severe pain .I was then re-admitted to the sheffield hospital to have the abscess drained,i had to go down to the operating theatre several times to have the abscess drained and i was informed by the orthopedic surgeon it was a bllod clot that caused the abscess i was then discharged again after about 4-6 weeks in hospital and it left a painfully lump right on the tip of the stump right on the shin bone. This left me in more severe pain as it was pressing against the inside of the prosthesis.Due to the lack of medical care the damage to my left knee caused by the internal knee rotation which twisted my knee joint that i had developed since the accident on january 17th 1990 n My situation after the abscess deteriorated my posture was no better and i was just left in more severe pain in my left knee and hip joint and this all transferred to my good leg affecting my right hip, knee joint, ankle and my lower back.

After seeing another orthopedic surgeon in july 1995 to improve my situation he decided to do a further amputation above the knee at mid thigh as the damage had been done and that my situation wouldn't improve at all. I finally had my further amputation in april 1996 The surgeon went on to state to me the below knee amputation should of been done some time after i was first admitted after january 17th 1990 due to fact my foot had little chance of surviving after such a severe crushing injury i sustained in my accident i hope my full explanation on this page helps you understand how severe my injuries were.

This is a serious failure and lack of medical care by the medical profession and for not having ex-rays at the time i was admitted into hospital from casualty and more than likely other mistakes were made by them which could amount to negligence so in my honest and opinion and belief due to the lack of medical care there was a possible claim against rotherham south yorkshire health authority for medical negligence .I Have been unable to wear my prosthesis for many years now due to various reasons. medical profession and for not having ex-rays at the time i was admitted into hospital from casualty and more than likely other mistakes were made by them which could amount to negligence so in my honest and opinion and belief due to the lack of medical care there was a possible claim against rotherham medical authority south yorkshire for medical nehligence
